Scott Mayfield: Back Healthy, 'Feels Like A Hockey Player Again' Ahead Of Season-Opener

EAST MEADOW, NY — It’s been 230 days since New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield suited up for an NHL game.

After suffering a fractured ankle on opening night last season, the 31-year-old, in the first year of a seven-year deal worth $24.5 million ($3.5 M AAV), battled to stay on the ice until he couldn’t anymore.

After playing against the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 22, his 41st game of the season, Mayfield opted for surgery, ending his season.
