New York Islanders rookie forward Maxim Tsyplakov had played in every game this season before landing a three-game suspension on Jan. 16.

Through 44 games, Tsyplakov had seven goals and 12 assists. He is currently riding a 12-game scoreless streak with just one goal over his last 15 games.

There’s no question that Tsyplakov can play in the NHL in a middle-six role because even when he’s not scoring, he can do the little things that can produce offense, especially off the rush.

The Islanders are better with him in the lineup.

But, if there’s one positive in all this, it’s that, for the first time since coming to North America, he gets to take a breath.
