EAST MEADOW, NY — New York Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo never knew if he would get another NHL shot after no offers came his way this past summer.

But, since returning from the KHL and joining the Islanders, the 29-year-old has proven that he can be a difference-maker.

In 33 games, DeAngelo has 19 points with four goals and 15 assists, mostly skating alongside Alexander Romanov on the top or second defensive pairing.

He’s been a catalyst back there for head coach Patrick Roy, bringing a skill set that this team has longed for, with his ability to transition the puck up the ice quickly.

I spoke with DeAngelo about his time with the Islanders, his willingness to re-sign, and more in this exclusive interview:
