New York Islanders forward prospect Victor Eklund will be gunning for a spot on the NHL roster this fall.
Given the “thrive, not survive” sentiments from general manager Mathieu Darche, the belief is that Eklund will have to leave no doubts in the organization’s mind that he’s ready.

The reason is simple. The Islanders, who are in the midst of a transition, can’t mess this up, and how they handle Eklund is the first brick in building what will hopefully be a new age of Islanders hockey.
There’s no question that Eklund’s game is best suited for a top-six role, but will he be able to earn one?
