What Song The Islanders Play After Wins - - And Why
The New York Islanders blasted their go-to win song in the locker room after their 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks.
If you stayed up last night, you got to witness the New York Islanders’ best game of the season.
It was total domination through two periods, with the Vancouver Canucks only recording six shots through the opening 40 in what became a 5-2 victory.
We even got to see a vintage Matt Martin fight, who went with the old jersey tuck on Oilers defenseman Vincent Desharnais, which gave us this glorious pic from the penalty box:
It was one of those games where everything was clicking, and everyone was carrying their weight.
“I mean, come on,” as Patty Roy likes to say.
And who knew the game would turn out that way when the Canucks scored on their first shot of the game?
But credit to the Islanders, who shook it off and put together their most complete game of 2024-25.
Here’s the recap, just in case you dozed off:
The Islanders will be practicing in Seattle as they prepare for their Saturday matinee against the Kraken, an evening tilt for the Eastern Time folk.

Aatu Raty Talks Islanders Hockey Before Facing His Old Club For First Time Since Being Part Of Bo Horvat Trade
VANCOUVER -- On Jan. 30, 2023, the New York Islanders traded top prospect Aatu Raty, Anthony Beauvillier, and a conditional 2023 first-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for their captain Bo Horvat.
On Thursday night, Räty will play against the Islanders for the first time.
After Canucks morning skate, we had the chance to catch up with the former Islanders prospect to get his thoughts on the trade, his career, and playing against the team that gave him his start.
Let's start with the trade.
"Honestly, I had no idea. I feel like it's something that if you haven't been traded, you feel like it's not gonna happen," Räty said. "It’s not like I look at the rumors, but I don't think people massively talked about me getting traded. None of my friends were saying anything about that or anything. So it was definitely a shock. I wasn't on my phone, like, I wasn't in the room with my phone. So I think I found out three hours later.”

What Song The Islanders Play After Wins - - And Why
After an impressive victory in Vancouver, the New York Islanders’ locker room was blasting “I’m Your Man,” a classic by the band Wham!
It’s been the Islanders’ go-to win song the entire season, and after speaking with Anders Lee, who had a heck of a night with a goal and an assist, I thought it was time to get some answers:
Stefen Rosner: "Whose idea was it to play that song after wins?”
Anders Lee: “I’ll take the credit…but do you know the skates?
Rosner: “The what?”
Lee: “The skates…the skates we did at training camp?”
Rosner: “Oh yeah” (not me thinking of a brand of skates which had me incredibly confused)
Lee: “Roy called those ‘Whammies.’
Rosner: “Ohhhhh.”
Here’s a video of a whammy from training camp:
So, not only did Patrick Roy’s bag skates help the Islanders get into shape for the season, but it also paved the way to the team’s goal song.
How about that?
Kudos to Lee for sharing the why, and stick taps to him for making a brilliant song selection. Those whammies certainly brought the team closer together, and so does each and every win.
