EAST MEADOW, NY — The New York Islanders held their end of the season media session on Saturday. Anthony Duclair was not made available. General manager Lou Lamoriello and head coach Patrick Roy did not speak.
Pierre Engvall did not talk as his wife gave birth. We did not speak with Scott Perunovich, Adam Boqvist, Marc Gatcomb and Kyle MacLean.
While more articles with quotes from Saturday are coming, I thought it would be best to provide a round-up of the biggest news from the day.
INJURY FRONT
G Semyon Varlamov: He had a knee procedure in December and expects to be back for training camp.
F Mathew Barzal: He will be ready for training camp. He could have potentially come back in time for playoffs, but didn’t want to rush anything.
D Alexander Romanov: He broke the cartilage between his ribs early in the season.
D Ryan Pulock: He was playing through an upper-body injury, thought it set him back in the second half
CONTRACT TALKS
D Tony DeAngelo: First priority would be to be back with Islanders. (UFA)
D Mike Reilly: He was disappointed with a lack of playing time down the stretch after returning from rehabbing after heart procedure, plans to continue his career. (UFA)
D Noah Dobson: He will sit down with his agent to review the options and then consult with the Islanders to determine the next steps. Is open to a bridge deal or a long-term deal. (RFA)
D Alexander Romanov: He wants to be with the Islanders for a long time. (RFA)
F Hudson Fasching: He wants to be back to the team. Loves everything about being an Islander and has enjoyed his three seasons here. He has had no contract talks yet. (UFA)
F Simon Holmstrom: He says his next contract will be up to Lou and his agent to figure out. (RFA)
F Maxim Tsyplakov: He expected more from himself in his first NHL season but loved being a part of this team. Sounds like he’ll be back. (FRA)
F Kyle Palmieri: He remained consistent about wanting to be back with this team. A contract does not appear to have been finalized, but talks have been underway since around the trade deadline.
If everyone on this team had Romanov fire, they would be a playoff team!
This team is in serious trouble if they don’t hit on George, Eiserman, Ritchie, and Nelson. We need all three to be very good if not great players. Plus winning the lottery wouldn’t hurt ! Just don’t think Lou is the right GM to retool this team. Ownership is super strewed if Lou is the guy. Another lousy season the attendance figures will bottom out. Then you wasted another year with Louie?
