WHO’S HOT:
Simon Holmstrom had a multi-point game on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils, tallying a goal and assist, which was the fourth of his career. He is also averaging a point-per-game over his last five, tallying two goals and three assists in that span.
All three members of the Islanders’ second line connected on a goal on Saturday. Brock Nelson lit the lamp, and Kyle Palmieri and Maxim Tsyplakov added the helpers. Palmieri is also averaging at least a point over his last five games, tallying two goals and three assists.
Ilya Sorokin is the projected starter for the Islanders on Tuesday as he bids for his 100th NHL win. Against Edmonton, he is 3-3-0 with a 2.17 GAA and .936 SV%, earning the win in his last meeting with 30 saves in the win.
Bo Horvat is the Islanders’ leading scorer against the Oilers in his career. The former Vancouver Canuck has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 40 games against them; he tallied one goal and assist between their two games last season.
OPPONENT’S NOTES:
Connor McDavid enters play on Tuesday off a three-point game against the Canucks on Saturday. He is five points shy of 1,000 for his career, totaling 339 goals and 656 assists in 657 games.
After a slow start to the season, Zach Hyman has started to heat up for the Oilers. He had two assists in the game on Saturday and boasts three goals and three assists in that stretch.
Jeff Skinner leads the active Oilers in scoring against the Islanders. The forward has 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points in 47 games. McDavid (five goals and 12 assists) and Leon Draisaitl (nine goals and nine assists) both average over a point per game against New York in 15 matchups.

QUOTABLES:
“You always want to try to win the first game. I think it sets the tone for your trip. And this is a good challenge for our team. This is a very good hockey club, and we're going to have to be ready for them.” — Patrick Roy
“They have a lot of talent. They have skilled players, really good players. So, we have to do our job to contain them and limit their chances, and I think we'll be able to come out with a win if we do that.” — Isaiah George

Where do they go from here. Even 100 % healthy the team is questionable. We need to somehow find two more Max Ty’s out of thin air, or Holmstrom Engvall George need to step up in a big way.
Got a positive feeling about this road trip. Maybe it has more to do with the opponents. Islanders have a good chance to have a good Road Trip especially if they can win in Edmonton.
