Islanders Collapse Overshadows One Huge Darche Success: Bridgeport’s Stunning Turnaround

After a disastrous season, the AHL affiliate is back in the playoffs in large part due to the attention Darche gave them from Day 1.

There will be plenty of time to dissect first-year general manager Mathieu Darche’s decisions and how they played a role in the New York Islanders squandering a playoff spot after an utter collapse down the stretch.

While we all have our opinions, I think it’s only fair to hold off on that until Darche speaks at his end-of-season press conference later this week.

While the spotlight is on Darche’s “mistakes,” his mindset on the importance of Bridgeport is something he deserves credit for.

Bridgeport clinched a playoff spot on Sunday night with a 4–1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack, their first trip back to the postseason since 2021–22.
