New head coach Pete DeBoer made it clear following the New York Islanders’ elimination on Sunday night that, for their season finale against the Carolina Hurricanes, he wanted to get a look at players who could factor into this team’s future.
That brings us to forward prospect Victor Eklund, who I’m told is being recalled from Bridgeport after posting nine points (two goals, seven assists) through his first seven AHL games. He recorded 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 43 games with the SHL’s Djurgårdens before coming to North America on March 26.

ELMONT, NY — New York Islanders forward prospect Victor Eklund is eligible to join the organization after Djurgårdens IF was eliminated from the SHL playoffs.
Eklund, 19, was drafted 16th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft—one of two first-round picks acquired in the return for Noah Dobson. The other was defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson, selected 17th overall.
