EXCLUSIVE: Marc Gatcomb Back Where His Professional Career Began
Gatcomb is back in Vancouver, an organization he played three seasons for, totaling 112 AHL games.
VANCOUVER — Before Marc Gatcomb became a member of the New York Islanders’ organization ahead of the 2024-25 season, he was a part of the Vancouver Canucks' franchise.
After four years at the University of Connecticut (2018-22), the Abbotsford Canucks, their AHL affiliate, signed Gatcomb to a professional tryout for the remainder of the 2021-22 season, then inked him to a one-year AHL deal for the 2022-23 season. He earned a one-year extension for the 2023-24 season before joining the Islanders on a one-year entry-level deal for the 2024-25 season.
He played a total of 112 AHL games for Vancouver and six games with their ECHL affiliate, the Kalamazoo Wings, but never got a chance to play in the NHL.
The Islanders gave him that chance last season, where he scored eight goals and one assist for nine points in 39 games, while recording 149 hits, 3.82 hits per game.
This season, he has one goal and one assist for two points in 21 games, with 100 hits, averaging 4.76 hits per game.
Ahead of tonight’s game against his former franchise, I spoke with Gatcomb about being back, what he remembers about the Bo Horvat deal, and more:
