The Islanders & Their Struggles With Romanov Out Of Lineup
Alexander Romanov will miss his 15th game of the season tonight.
New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov, a pending restricted free agent, has emerged as a true No. 1 defenseman for Patrick Roy, playing smart and sound defensive hockey.
He’s also generated offense off the rush and has shown an impeccable ability to get the puck through from the point.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old has missed some time this season. Due to an illness, he’ll miss his 15th game of the season tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
And that’s a massive loss for the Islanders, given their dire need for points against an opponent who is in the same boat. Romanov’s physicality and the need for opponents to pay attention when he’s on the ice isn’t a role easily filled.
So, it’s not shocking to see that the Islanders have struggled mightily in the 14 games without Romanov so far this season.
