Don't Miss Out On Anders Lee's Upcoming Jam Kancer In The Kan Event
Join Islanders captain Anders Lee and his teammates on Sept. 13 at the practice facility.
Happy Free Friday, everyone!
On Saturday, Sept. 13, New York Islanders captain Anders Lee is hosting his annual Jam Kancer in the Kan event. For a third straight year, the event will take place at Northwell Health Ice Center, the Islanders' practice facility, on their outdoor rink.
This fundraiser raises money to support local families affected by cancer. At the same time, it also allows participants to interact with their favorite Islanders players while playing a fun lawn game for such a fantastic cause.
"It's a fun way to kick off the season, get all the boys together, hang out with some kids and some families, enjoy an afternoon, and take their mind off of the battle that they're going through as a group and put some smile on some faces,” Lee said on Friday morning. “It's fun to do that as a team. I think it's been a fun little way to kick things off before we get into camp and everything, get the boys together and do some good in the community.”
Last year's event raised $227,000, with Lee helping to raise north of $3.2 million since 2016.
“It's been extremely special. The event has grown so much, and to have it become a little bit of a tradition means a lot to me,” Lee said. “It means a lot to our foundation. And I think just the reach that we've been able to get to with our local community of families and kids has meant a lot to me. I'm really proud of the boys who come out every year and support me on this. They're the ones that make it the event that it is.
“You get to come spend two to three hours with our whole team, hang out with the guys, and see us in a setting you wouldn't normally see. So it's turned into a pretty special thing, and something that means a lot to me. Looking back, I'm amazed at how far we've come and how much we've accomplished. It started out as a simple effort to do the right thing, and it's turned into something pretty special.”
