Islanders Actually Won Four Games This Week
The Islanders have won three games in a row, while their alumni team also came through with a victory.
The New York Islanders proved a lot over this last week of action.
They proved they haven’t quit, with their first three-game winning streak of the season serving as Exhibit A.
Marcus Hogberg proved he is a legitimate NHL backup netminder who could be trusted.
Mathew Barzal proved that he just needed some more time after his injury, as he’s found his game, skating alongside Brock Nelson and Anders Lee. He has six points in his last five games.
Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock proved that they are the difference makers when it comes to the Islanders' playing structured, especially early in games.
Cal Clutterbuck proved he could still suit up for an NHL team.
Wait, what?
On Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, Clutterbuck took part in his first Islanders-Rangers Alumni Classic, where he recorded a hat trick, showing off that elite wrister.
The other Islanders alumni in attendance: Kevin Poulin (goalie), Bruno Gervais, Rob Schremp, Pierre Turgeon, Benoit Hogue, Eric Cairns, Radek Martinek, Dennis Seidenberg, Alexei Yashin, Steve Webb (coach)
Clutterbuck didn’t take it easy on Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist, that’s for sure. That Clutterbuck passion was there, minus, you know, the physicality.
The 37-year-old has yet to send his retirement papers to the league’s HR, and what’s ironic is that the Islanders have yet to find his replacement on the club’s fourth line…
All proceeds from the event benefited the Garden of Dreams Foundation and Northwell Health Foundation, resulting in a $200,000 check awarded to the foundation.
Here’s a highlight package from what was a fantastic event!
Barzal, Top Line Powering Islanders’ Turnaround
New York Islanders Mathew Barzal had his moment on Saturday night in Utah.
With the score deadlocked at 1-1 with time winding down in the third period, the 27-year-old hopped on a loose puck in the high slot and ripped one into the back of the net to give his team a 2-1 lead with 1:25 to play in the third.
"I just saw a big scramble," Barzal said postgame. "Saw Leesy and Nelly battling for the puck, just doing everything they can. It was kind of a muck, so I was just fortunate to be on top and have one squirt out.”

Hogberg Doing What No Islanders Third-String Goalie Has Done Before
Marcus Hogberg is doing what no New York Islanders third-string goalie has done before.
He's provided strong, consistent play in the absence of the Islanders' goaltending tandem.
After Hogberg found out on Friday that Ilya Sorokin would be unlikely to play on Saturday night due to illness, Hogberg came ready.
The 29-year-old turned aside 21 of 22 shots that came his way to help shut the door for a 2-1 win over the Utah Hockey Club.
Hogberg wasn't overly busy throughout the night but repeatedly came up in critical moments.
The third-period horn buzzer meant Hogberg had his first NHL win since Apr. 28, 2021, a sound that also gave the Islanders their third straight win.

When you look at the entire islanders roster no one with the exception of Lee
Is preforming up to expectations. All they need to turn it around is start performing as they should. Speciality Teams are just terrible, it’s hard to believe they can’t produce better.
