Notes On Islanders Prospects Cole Eiserman & Danny Nelson After Day 1 Of 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships

Thursday marked the beginning of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships in Ottawa. The New York Islanders had two prospects representing Team USA, Cole Eiserman and Danny Nelson, both skating on the second line.

Lines up at RW one-time spot on PP2
Doesn’t move around too much, waited some times for puck to come to him
Zero hesitancy to go to the net
He’s feisty
High IQ in offensive zone, especially off the rush
a few passes to teammates at back post just missed
Finishes his checks
Quick passes in neutral zone to help with zone entries
set the tone by chipping the puck in on goal to start game
Showed solid awareness defensively
Want to see him more engaged

Opens up for one-timer low in right dot (different than on PP where he’s much higher)

Starts along the boards
Reads play and timing-wise, as play goes across zone to left, he moves at same speed to his right
Elite finish past the glove

Great play to attack from the middle of the ice
Gets the puck by the wall, moves his feet, and gets to the middle
After drop pass, he cuts low but still opens up to be a passing option
Zero hesitation to give the puck back to Connelly

Trusted on PK
Got a shorthanded shot off
Makes the quick, simple plays that go completely under the radar
Quick short passes, especially in neutral zone
Shown ability for stretch pass
Hit Eiserman from own zone to lead to 2-on-1 chance
Sneaky shot and doesn’t hesitate
Hits the net

Peels back before pinning puck along board
Battles to keep possession, coming away with the puck
