Barzal Makes A Fan's Night, Sorokin The Babysitter & Mayfield's Appreciation For The Didgeridoo
The Islanders held their Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday.
Good morning, peeps. After practicing on Tuesday following Monday’s 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Islanders have the day off.
Following Tuesday’s practice, I hopped on the mic and recorded the latest episode of Rosner’s Rink Wrap to discuss Noah Dobson’s injury, the play of Marc Gatcomb, and more. Have a listen!
On Tuesday night, the Islanders season-ticket holders got to pull back the curtain of their favorite team and learn some things about their favorite players.
Based on all the cool videos going around, it seems like the event was a great success.
We had Mathew Barzal make a young fan’s night by completing his checklist of getting a signed puck, stick, and gloves:
We had all the players say that Ilya Sorokin would be the best babysitter on the team despite him not believing that to be the case:
And we also learned a fun fact about Scott Mayfield. According to Islanders’ captain Anders Lee, No. 24 can play the Didgeridoo:

Source: Washington Capitals Have Inquired About New York Islanders Forward Brock Nelson
According to industry sources, the Washington Capitals have checked in on New York Islanders' pending unrestricted free agent forward, Brock Nelson.
While any potential team that acquires Nelson would likely want him to extend, given the cost, the Capitals are believed to have no issue with him being a pure rental.
Nelson, 33, is likely to be one of the most sought-after players ahead of March 7th's NHL Trade Deadline.

The Subtle Marc Gatcomb Effect Moving A Big Islanders Needle
EAST MEADOW, NY — Head coach Patrick Roy has tried many players in hopes of filling Clutterbuck's role, but no one has truly taken the opportunity to run with it.
That is until Marc Gatcomb came around last Tuesday when the Islanders fell 2-0 to the Ottawa Senators.
In his three NHL games, the 25-year-old has played heavily, racking up 19 hits in an average of 8:57 a night, with a block and a takeaway.
He had four hits in his NHL debut, seven hits in their 5-1 win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night, and then eight hits on Tuesday.

Signing DeAngelo means Dobson situation has changed? Dobson out for remainder of the season? Lou isn’t honest with this stuff. Most likely Reilly called it quits also, after health scare. You wonder how hellbent Lou is to cling to his job by making the playoffs. If this guy doesn’t retool this team it’s pure malpractice and ownership should relieve him of his duties and hand it to Patrick. In Lou we trust has gone too far. The other possibility is they are moving Poluck?
Devils possible sign and trade for Nelson? Nemec RHD would be perfect for Islanders. Nelson three year deal with Devils gives the Devils a serious Cup Window. Spare parts like Hogberg or Varley and Palmeri . Devils Window is now. It all comes down to Nelson willing to sign with NJ. Nelson needs to steer the trade, because the true value is in his willingness to sign with his chosen team. Nelson is going to be a producer for three years.
