That Playoff Feeling Is In The Air
After a 4-3 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Islanders find themselves one point back of the second wild-card spot with 14 games to go.
Hey Siri, play “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.
After a third straight dramatic win, the New York Islanders find themselves just two points back of the Montreal Canadiens for the second wild-card spot with 14 games to go.
Yes, the Islanders “gave” Montreal a point after blowing a two-goal third period, but they did recover, with Bo Horvat’s second of the night sending UBS Arena into a frenzy.
This season has been a rocky one. Injuries, especially to key players, have made life rather difficult all season long. So have the blown leads and weak power play.
So, it’s kind of crazy that we are sitting here and even uttering the word playoffs with 14 games to go.
It’s a testament to this group and the heart of the people wearing the jerseys.
The hockey gods seem to be doing everything to stop the Islanders from finding consistent success.
But the hockey gods should know better because, repeatedly, the Islanders have proven that they’ll take all the punches. And when things look bleak, they’ll land that nasty uppercut and prolong the fight.
A team can have all the talent in the world, but if the team doesn’t collectively believe in what they’re doing, they’ll go nowhere. Just look at their cross-town rivals right now.
The top players are coming through. Their depth forwards are coming through.
Their most important player, Ilya Sorokin, is delivering tremendous performances.
And all Patrick Roy has to do is keep smiling and keep being positive because he’s gearing up to say, “Hey, I told ya.”
The Islanders have a lot of work still to do.
Two points back with 14 games to go; who knows how it all shakes out.
But Roy’s team is up for this challenge and has the track record that speaks for itself when it comes to raising their game when their backs are against the wall.
