The Suspended Max Tsyplakov Talks Watching From Above
Tsyplakov has one game left on his three-game suspension.
Maxim Tsyplakov has one more game before his three-game suspension comes to a close.
The 26-year-old being out of the lineup is not ideal given the Islanders’ need for wins, there is a silver lining.
On Thursday, I spoke to Tsyplakov about watching from above.
Here’s what No. 7 had to say:
Stefen Rosner: Since coming to Long Island early this past summer, it’s been non-stop for you in your first NHL season. As much as you want to be playing right now, how important is this time to rest and assess your game?
Maxim Tsyplakov: "Yeah, it's a good time for rest and be be ready for my first game back, the second game [of back to back]. Yeah, it’s good for rest, emotional, and body feel."
Rosner: The NHL game is obviously slower watching from above. Have you been able to take mental notes about your own game after watching from a different vantage point?
Tsyplakov: "Sure. I see these couple of moments to better my game. It's good, sometimes, to watch a game like that. You see how you can do more movement, better for tactics, and play better on the wall.”
Here’s what head coach Patrick Roy had to say when I asked him if he thought it was important for Tsyplakov to watch from above:
Patrick Roy:
“I like to think so. Sometimes, not playing and watching games gives you a different perspective on what to do in certain situations. I hope he took advantage, quite honestly. I'm sure it will help him.”
With Markstrom Hurt, Could The Devils Look To Islanders For Goaltending Help?
The New York Islanders have been without backup netminder Semyon Varlamov since Nov. 29.
In his absence, Ilya Sorokin handled the majority of the workload.
However, third-string netminder Marcus Hogberg has been given an opportunity and shined in his limited opportunities.
Through six appearances, Hogberg owns a 1.32 GAA with a .952 SV%.
The question is, with the way Hogberg has played, has he turned himself into an asset?

Devils are in an interesting spot. League is wide open, they have a legitimate shot at the Cup. Devils should target Brock on a three year deal. No way they should look at JT Miller he has issues. Brock would give them exactly what they need. Brock and whatever spare parts they need ie Hogberg Palmeri for Nemec. Retaining is not an issue either.
Flyers are going to bring the physicality tonight. The Islanders didn’t have any pushback and looked cowardly as Max was hacked and abused. Right or Wrong you go to war with a teammate. Personally I had zero issue with the hit, it wasn’t penalized so it was clean. Player Safety dudes hate Russians and wanted to satisfy Torts period. Thats what really bothers me about the team besides the obvious. Pelech was decked with a vicious elbow from Gallagher last year. Players did nothing at the time. You see a teammate down you react and find out. Just another reason to retool! Team needs a younger more physical vibe.
